La Fortuna is located in the north-central region of Costa Rica.

Known for its natural attractions such as Arenal Volcano and the surrounding national parks,
it is a popular destination loved by travelers from around the world.

It’s about 80 kilometers from the capital city, San José, and relatively easy to access.

I booked a shared taxi online from San José to get here.
There are various other transportation options available, so I recommend checking online.

Sightseeing Spot

La Fortuna

This town serves as the central hub for tourism.

From here, you can join a wide variety of nature-focused tours and excursions.

Parque Nacional Volcán Arenal

This area serves as the main hub for tourism in La Fortuna,
where you can observe Costa Rica’s rich natural landscapes and the diverse wildlife that inhabits its tropical rainforests.

You can also enjoy breathtaking views of the majestic Arenal Volcano up close,
along with activities such as hiking and birdwatching.

I was only able to capture a few of the many plant and animal species in my photos,
but this national park is home to a wide variety of wildlife and vegetation.

I highly recommend joining a trekking tour through the park to experience it firsthand.

Fortuna Waterfall

This is a must-visit destination that's typically included in tours of the Arenal Volcano National Park.

The waterfall drops from a height of about 70 meters,
offering a powerful spectacle, and its vibrant blue pool makes it an incredibly photogenic spot.

Río Celeste

I visited this site as part of a different tour from the Arenal National Park excursion.

As you can see from the photos, this river is famous for its striking turquoise-blue color.

The vivid blue of the water combined with the lush green surroundings creates a truly breathtaking scene.

There’s also a nearby waterfall, making it a perfect spot to enjoy the natural beauty and vibrant colors of the landscape.

While exploring Rio Celeste, I had an incredible surprise encounter!

A sloth!

If you're lucky, you might spot one too—so keep your eyes peeled as you walk through the area.

Restaurant

This is a stylish bar-restaurant located in the town square.

I ordered a beer and something like garlic-grilled chicken here.
They also offer classic bar staples like burgers, so it’s an easygoing place to drop by.

Definitely give it a try!

Wood-Fired Pizza

This restaurant was located right in front of the hotel where I stayed.

I ordered garlic-grilled mussels and a steak—both were seasoned just the way I like and absolutely delicious!

If you have time, I definitely recommend stopping by!
